Water Improvement Project
Sunset has supported multiple (20+) property owners and their projects in emergency and non-emergency biological support and environmental permitting of pile-supported overwater residential structures throughout San Francisco Bay and Delta and other coastal locations throughout central and northern California. Projects have included repair and/or replacement of deteriorating creosote wood, steel, and concrete piles, residential structure and foundation repairs, deck and pier repairs and replacements, additions and replacements of boat and kayak lifts, and removal of failing structures. Sunset prepared biological assessments and secured all environmental permits through the US Army Corps of Engineers, San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board, Bay Conservation and Development Commission, and California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Sunset also addressed potential impacts to the species and essential fish habitat as part of the regulatory review consultation with US Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service as required.
Sunset worked closely with the homeowners and the project architects and engineers to identify project design changes whenever possible to fit within the streamlined permitting guidelines and permit processes as developed by the regulatory agencies to efficiently approve the projects. Once permitted, Sunset conducts the required biological and environmental surveys and construction monitoring. These have included eelgrass surveys, Pacific herring spawning season construction monitoring, and nesting bird surveys as required by permit compliance measures.
