Yacht Club and Marina Emergency Pier Replacement and Dock Pile Project

San Francisco, California

Client: Private yacht club

Multi-phase Improvement Project

Sunset provided multi-phase environmental permitting support for pile and pier replacement work at a private yacht club in San Francisco. In the initial phase, Sunset coordinated with key players, including applicants, landowners, and attorneys, and created a plan for preparing and coordinating emergency permit applications across five regulatory agencies: the Bay Conservation and Development Commission, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Regional Water Quality Control Board, along with required consultation with the National Marine Fisheries Service and US Fish and Wildlife Service as part of the Corps process. Building on that work, Sunset returned for a Phase 2 effort to support the club’s West Pier Replacement Project, again preparing non-emergency permit applications for BCDC, USACE, and RWQCB, and coordinating with NMFS and USFWS. For this phase, Sunset expanded its role to include collecting and assessing relevant biological information to incorporate directly into the permit applications, helping streamline agency review. Across both phases, Sunset based its applications on project design input from the landowners, structural engineers, and construction team, supporting the club’s marina infrastructure improvements through a multi year, multi-agency permitting process. Sunset provided construction monitoring and worked to assure all permit conditions and requirements were met.
